"The Sanctuary" is the accepted name for the gutted, splayed open shell of a church at 19th & Peoria in Pilsen. It's a very cool sight, especially when stumbled upon, and Lynn Becker spotlights the 1880s building which reached a state of partial collapse after a 1998 windstorm toppled fire-weakened walls. A local developer preserved what's left—the main facade and open foundation—as a creepy garden hangout. [ArchitectureChicago PLUS, photo: Brule Laker/Flickr]
