City Lines Up Bloomingdale Contractor; Work To Begin!

New, 8 comments

One day after our Bloomingdale Trail site visit where we wondered aloud about the city's ability to adhere to its construction timetable, Walsh Construction has been awarded a $54M contract to get the heavy lifting underway. The Sun-Times' David Roeder broke the news. Walsh's bid came in $5.2M lower than the closest competition. The firm will execute the designs of landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates in accordance with the city's finalized framework plan. It's the end of the road for self-guided tours (i.e. benign trespass) once major work begins in the next week or two. Should the timetable hold, we'll all be frolicking on The 606 by late 2014.
