A Blandified Version of 707 North Wells Apartment Proposal

New, 36 comments

The 12-story rental building proposed by Campus Acquisitions for occupied lots at Wells & Huron has a new rendering. Skyscraper Page's (SSP) Spyguy unearthed the nasty article earlier today, which shows an abandonment of modular modernist design in favor of beige precast. SSP observers and others will undoubtedly cringe at more blandness for River North, but NIMBYs may have brought on the change when they complained that the design "evoked the Metropolitan Corrections Center on Van Buren" and disrespected the Wells streetwall. Among the unknowns is whether the parking allotment will hold (50 garage spaces) and what that orientation will be— another controversial aspect among neighbors.
