The former Chicago Northside MRI Center at Surf & Sheridan is being cordoned off in advance of demolition. The wrecking ball will fly sometime in the next week, clearing the way for a parking lot designed to serve the planned 9-story Presence Center for Advanced Care about to break ground across the street. The 200,000 square-foot expansion to St. Joseph's Hospital will eat up an existing surface lot, but there will still be a net gain in parking since the building's three lower floors will accommodate 350 cars. The design, by RTKL Associates is rather meh but will no doubt offer new competitiveness to the hospital. Neighborhood challenges to the project, from those who sought residential development at this site, have been struck down by the courts. [The Patch, previously]
