The 20-year redevelopment scheme for the old Main Post Office and environs got the Chicago Plan Commission's OK on Thursday, clearing developer Bill Davies to launch phase one pending financing. We're talking 2,155 rental units, 300,000 square feet of retail, and a 1,300-space parking garage. If Davies gets to phase two, that's when things get really interesting. A 170-story supertall is planned as the tallest building in the country. Total cost at the end of the day is an estimated $4B. "My client is quite a rich man, but he's not rich enough to do all of it himself," said Charles Hubbard, a consultant to Davies. "We need partners." [Trib, previously, previously]
