Construction is afoot for a 223-unit rental tower at Washington & Desplaines known as Catalyst. Work began in late Spring and the crane is still piecing together the parking/retail podium (don't get too excited, Walgreens will be the chief tenant). Residential floors are up next— 17 of them. The development, by Marquette Companies, is a rekindling of nearly abandoned hopes for a residential building at this location. Marquette took over from developer Gary Rosenberg, who faced foreclosure, and set out to find a new non-flourescent design. Brininstool + Lynch got the gig, and their concept is a rehashing of Perkins + Will's 235 Van Buren with bulkier massing and a little bit less busyness. This is one project we'll eagerly revisit.
