We all have anecdotal evidence to support the commercialized cesspool image of Navy Pier. Some of us have even been there before. Chicago Mag's Whet Moser wants Chicagoans to appreciate that, in the absence visionary thinking, the disordered soul of Navy Pier is and has long been a reflection of the state of the city— its mix of people, uses, high- and low- brow culture, and evolving sense of amusement. There's "too little to do and too much going on." Through a historical lens, then, it might be possible to find a soft spot for the tourist trap. [Chicago Mag]
