Canadian startup Cube Cities is adding voluptuousness to the historical mapped urban form of cities through the use of 3-D animation. Starting with a handful of major North American cities, the company combined commercial real estate data dating to the beginnings of vertical growth with Google Earth for short and colorful bird's eye views of each city's evolving skyline. Hit the play button above for 150 years of Chicago's urban development in 100 seconds. The transformative eras in the downtown and Near North lakefront arrive in several bursts more-or-less aligning with advances in building technology and economic booms. Good times, folks, good times.
