Obama strategist-turned-academic David Axelrod — Karl Rove of the Democrats, as some like to say — has listed his longtime Lake Point Tower pad for $1.25M. Axelrod and his wife, Susan, bought the 3,200 square-foot 46th floor condo in 2001 for $950K, according to records consulted by Crain's. Not knowing its significance, we passed over this new-to-market listing when constructing our Lake Point Tower face-off last week. The subdued interiors with earth-tone furnishings just didn't make a strong enough case. That said, this is probably a more comfortable dwelling than either of the showier high-floor listings. The views are superb of course, and a great room fuses kitchen, dining, and living spaces thus setting the stage for productive schmooze-a-thons. The Axelrods have another condo at Water Tower Place, purchased last year for $1.7M, so Chicago's hanging onto this political royalty.
