Neighbor Beefs

A contingent of Rogers Park residents are hopeful the city is up to the task of landmarking the former Shambhala Mediation Center at 7331 N. Sheridan Road. Why should you care? Because without landmark protections, James Pritzker and his development company Tawani Enterprises may well raze the Prairie-style structure and build a four-story, 250-space corrugated parking garage in its place. It's hard to imagine a bigger clash with the avenue's large homes and small apartment buildings. Despite this epic misguidedness, Pritzker is generally using his bottomless pockets for good: tuning up the nearby Emil Bach House and upgrading the Mayne Stage Theater. Concerned neighbors hoped to make themselves heard at yesterday's landmarks hearing. Stay tuned! [DNAinfo, previously]
