A Rekindled 111 West Wacker Tacks on Floors as it Awaits New Look

New, 4 comments

When Curbed dropped by the skeleton of Waterview Tower in March, the tower crane had just gone up and meat was starting to cleave to the bones of the stalled hotel and condo structure once proposed by Teng & Associates. With Related Midwest at the helm, a firm with a lot of heft in the world of rental construction, a 59-story apartment tower will be in place by mid-2014. With almost half of the height already there, Related is building just 33 new floors to attain its desired scale and unit count: 504. Redesigned by Handel Architects to look a lot like Related's 500 N LSD (albeit with some whimsical cuts laid across the blue-glass facade), the finished product won't be as captivating as DeStephano's cantilevered, rough-hewn supertall but most folks will be happy to have it. Five new stories are in place but work is accelerating. Expect 111 West Wacker to top out late in the year.
