Gapers Block flagged an important photographic event — UIC's archiving and public release of Chicago in the Year 2000, a historical document involving more than 200 photographers shooting some 500,000 frames over an entire first year of the Millennium. The collection also includes audio and video clips. It doesn't read like a neat narrative since many facets of life in the city are captured using different perspectives, different types of film, and divergent methods of documentation. And, thankfully, it's not a greatest hits list like so many city collections focused on local landmarks and architecture. [UIC via Gapers Block]
