Bike Share

Divvy will have its detractors, but Streetsblog Chicago's John Greenfield won't tolerate any "faux-exposé" from a respected transportation writer. That's how Greenfield characterized a Wednesday Tribune article by John Hilkevitch. Two days after singing the bike share system's praises, Hilkevitch returned with a more skeptical piece questioning the viability of bike share when businessmen and avid cyclists alike must be persuaded to use it. "Overtime fees" were portrayed as a deterrent (they can get extreme), even though they're easily avoidable. And Hilkevitch's expert witness assailed the $75 membership cost, not seeming to grasp that it buys you unlimited short rides for an entire year. Ah well, let the games begin.
