Available funds for the elaborate reconstruction and expansion of the Wilson CTA Station have climbed to an estimated $203M, and now the CTA is formally seeking bids from general contractors. The project will make Wilson a Red-Purple transfer station, extend the platform to Sunnyside, remodel the 1920s station house and terra cotta facade, and add vendors and amenities. Reengineering for removal of some of the gritty street-level support columns that make for a frightening overpass is one of the bigger expenses. Bids are due by mid-June with construction to begin later this year and conclude in 2016. [Crain's, previously]
