The developers of the Purple Hotel property in Lincolnwood are doing an abrupt 180. North Capital Group LLC and Weiss Properties Inc. told the village they're no longer bent on saving the building, not even the shell of it. Adaptive reuse seemed a sure thing following the release of renderings last summer by Koo & Associates. Auxiliary structures on the 8.5-acre site have already been razed, but an emotional attachment to the Purple Hotel's retro glory and sordid history was supposed to spare it such a fate. Developers will present a loose concept for a new boutique hotel building with retail early next week. [Crain's, previously]
