RIVER NORTH—After months of rumors, representatives have finally confirmed it—Shake Shack is on its way to the Windy City. It will be the first Midwest location of the New York-based cult burger chain.
WEST LOOP—Andrew Brochu, one of the most talented and most nomadic chefs in the biz, has a new workplace—The Aviary. More known for its James Beard Award-winning cocktails, Brochu has left Wicker Park's The Monarch to expand The Aviary's food program.
LOGAN SQUARE—There's a multi-tiered operation under construction on the 2300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue with an expanding number of hospitality projects. Look for two German spots, a distillery, a bar, and more to come in one complex.
CHICAGO—The Aviary wasn't the only one to win a James Beard Award recently. Paul Kahan (Publican) tied for the most prestigious award and Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat) picked up the nod for the best chef in the Great Lakes region.
