September 11, 2001 was the date when Hipolito "Paul" Roldan first inspected the string of vacant buildings on the 2600 block of West North. The idea was to convert the entire stretch to affordable housing — 110 units, sheltered from impending gentrification. Twelve years and $40M later the project is complete, fusing a warehouse conversion with 2-flats and a new 5-story building. All phases were led by the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation and designed by architects Weese Langley Weese. We think you'll agree, the project goes some distance in filling the "missing teeth" on North b/w Western and California. [LISC Chicago, previously, photo: LISC/Gordon Walek]
