Demolition Watch

New, 14 comments

It's game over for Ronald Reagan's boyhood home in Hyde Park. The University of Chicago began demolition on the multi-unit apartment block on Tuesday and as you'll see from DNAinfo's photo gallery, there ain't much left. The structure sits close to U of C's new medical building, the Center for Care and Discovery, and the school wants this parcel freed up for a "green strip" beside a surface parking lot serving the medical center. The demolition may damage some emotionally, but the primary blow is to the built form of the neighborhood. [DNAinfo, previously]
