The Meter Deal, Amended

New, 31 comments

Good news for the driving segment of Curbed's readership: the city has reached a dispute agreement with Chicago Parking Meters Results that saves the city $20M/year in billings ($1B over the life of the contract) and restores free Sunday parking at metered spaces in the neighborhoods. Which neighborhoods? All the ones south of Roosevelt, west of Halsted, and north of North. The reprieve kicks in at the end of the summer. And in the interest of convenience, a pay-by-cell option is coming by late 2014. The city's release touts the deal as a "big win", but the rest of us know it's all relative. [City of Chicago]
