BRT Watch

The city has selected Ashland Avenue as the next Bus Rapid Transit corridor. Western Avenue, get in line. Ashland has the highest CTA bus ridership and 16 miles of planned BRT (from 95th to Irving Park Road) will better promote economic development than it would along Western. The $160M project will be defined by buses-only center lanes and stops every half-mile with corresponding stations. Expedited fare-paying will be implemented to speed up boarding and traffic light synchronization will chip in as well. Work will be phased, starting with a central segment. There's still a chance to influence the design, either through CAF's competition or at public meetings still to come. [Trib, previously]
