On The Racked

You may have heard by now: Walgreens is stepping up their "green" game in constructing the nation's first Net Zero energy retail store in Evanston. Needless to say, LEED Platinum certification will accompany. According to Racked Chicago, solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal technology, energy-efficient building materials, LED lighting, sunlight harvesting and ultra-high-efficiency refrigeration will form a formidable cocktail of eco-friendliness. The new drugstore will gobble up an old one. That's great for progress and for the building and all, but what about the continued environmental ravages of car-centric suburban design?
