In order for meaningful energy efficiency to take hold in Chicago, skyscrapers have to be involved in a big way. Retrofit Chicago's Commercial Buildings Initiative is working to win the environmental pledges of building owners up and down the lakefront. The initiative was launched by the Mayor in June with 14 participants, and it just announced the pledges of another 18. Which means what? That each building will reduce energy consumption by 20% over five years. If you think this is barely an ounce of action, think again. Iconic buildings like Merch Mart, Wrigley, AT&T, and the Rookery are in the mix. [NRDC, previously]
