The restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright's Emil Bach House began last Spring, a pet project of Colonel James Pritzker and investment firm Tawani Enterprises. The 1914 commission is, appropriately, heavy on brick given Emil Bach's fortune made in the brickyard biz. A blog established last summer tracks the restoration as it barrels (or creeps) toward eventual opening to overnight guests. Before that happens, workers need to land a near-exact match for replacement masonry bricks and wood finishes— a trying task. While this project earns Pritzker kudos from Far North Siders, his nearby parking garage plan has some of those same folks quite PO'd. [Emil Bach House Blog, previously]
