E. Fay Jones, a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice with a robust career of his own, laid out this Prairie home in Barrington Hills shortly before his death in 2004. It's a whopper: 7,700 square feet on 6+ wooded acres. But it doesn't overpower. That seems to be one of Jones' calling cards through a career spent building serene structures in forested areas (mainly The Ozarks). The 4/5.5 house has an exterior of stone, oak, and douglas fir, and an interior of largely the same. It's the kind of place that, devoid of delicate furnishings, could open itself to the elements and do just fine. Four stone hearths are obvious centerpieces, as are the high-ceilinged common areas and landscaped outdoor pool deck w/ pool house. What else? Heated stone floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, a 3.5-car garage, and a gated entry drive. The ask: only $1.9M— astonishing for Barr Hills (need we say more?).
