Adler & Sullivan's Douglas Brownstone Sells For $480K

New, 6 comments

The early Adler & Sullivan commission at 3141 S Calumet is officially off the market, having sold this week for $480K— $145K below the initial June 2012 asking price. The large 1885 six-bed manages to retain an elegance and humility that shows deference to neighboring 19th century row homes, some of which are still proudly erect. The home merely hints at the Sullivan to come (the Auditorium Building was the loud announcement a few years later). Tell-tale features include the grand entry hall with marble floors, a stained glass skylight, leaded windows, and an opulent array of fireplaces. All for under $100 a square foot. Dear buyer, we hate you.
