Development Update

In the spring of 2012, Edgewater resident and interior design graduate student Vea Cleary proposed a serious but unfunded alternative use plan for the decommissioned Edgewater Medical Center [EMC]. Last week's public meeting was all about Waveland Partners' residential proposal for the EMC site at Ashland and Hollywood, but Ald. Patrick O'Connor indicated the city would be receptive to alternatives like Cleary's LGBTQ affordable senior housing plan should a developer surface. That may be a long shot. Either way it's worth checking out the concept, which reuses the primary hospital structure in attractive ways featuring a restaurant, winter garden, pool, and, yes, lots of seniors. The plan also preserves a health center component, and, like Waveland's, features park space. [Friends of West Edgewater Park, previously]
