It was just this Tuesday that the National Trust for Historic Preservation relaunched a suit to halt demolition of Old Prentice Hosptial. Forty-eight hours later that suit has been withdrawn. The explanation given in a statement didn't go beyond this: "We continue to believe there were significant flaws with the process that granted and then removed landmark protection for Prentice. However, we feel that the landmarks process has run its course." Two years of public brawls and two City Landmarks Commission rulings later, it looks more certain than ever that Northwestern will get to swing that wrecking ball. [Sun-Times, previously]
