Development Intrigue

New, 18 comments

Some juicy intel reached the hands of the neighborhood blog Sloopin today. In a nutshell, Ald. Danny Solis has proposed a change of zoning for the large swath of land south of Roosevelt (b/w Clark and the river) from "Residential Business Planned Development" to "Light Industry District". The 62-acre vacant parcel has become something of an accidental park. It was once targeted for massive mixed-use development with some 4,600 residences, which was tied to disgraced businessman Tony Rezko. Before that, it was to be the site of an IKEA. Recently, it's come up in casino discussions. Will a zoning amendment broaden its development appeal? Is there already somebody ready to pounce? A Feb. 26th public hearing should wield some answers.
