The city's first curb-separated bikeways are on the boards for State Street and Clybourn Avenue. The momentum of several protected bike lanes, the two-way Dearborn bikeway, and a tragedy is behind it. That tragedy is the death of cyclist Bobby Cann, run down on Clybourn in broad daylight. Chicago Bicycle Program project manager Mike Amsden revealed details at a Wednesday advisory meeting. Protective curbs could be part of IDOT's "pilot project" for Clybourn b/w Division and North. Similarly, CDOT is working with Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) to install barrier-protected lanes on State from 26th to 55th. [Streetsblog Chicago, previously, photo: State near Cermak by John Greenfield]
