By the trusted word of the Trib's Bob Goldsborough, former White Sox pitcher and World Series champ Jose Contreras has listed his 26th floor Gold Coast condo for sale. Contreras hasn't pitched for Chicago since 2009 (his travels have brought him most recently to the Rangers' farm system), but has held the property all this time perhaps hoping for appreciation. Bids to sell for $999,900 in 2010 and then $899,900 in 2012 failed and now Contreras is asking just $849,900 for the 2,500-square-foot lakefront three-bed with shades of the pitcher's native Cuba. Prices are moving in the wrong direction for the big leaguer, who shoveled $1.15M into the condo's purchase in 2006. Goldsborough muses on the fate of ballplayers who buy at this address: earlier this year former Cub Aramis Ramirez sold his three-bed unit at a $257K loss.
