Current and former Lathrop Homes residents and community allies are convening an opposition summit to address perceived shortcomings of the Lathrop Homes Master Plan for redevelopment of the public housing complex. The master plan lays out a new mix of incomes and commercial with a beautified riverfront and an uptick in residential density. Opponents cite a loss of 525 CHA units and 40-45 percent of existing buildings, as well as out-of-scale construction. Roughly 45% of the proposed 1,116 residential units would be market-rate. A Dec. 10th meeting will deliver demands to local aldermen and the CHA. Revisit the framework and decide where you stand. [LSNA, previously]
