The prospective apartment conversion of the old Oriental Theater office tower at Randolph b/w State and Dearborn is alive and well but under new tutelage. It was presumed last winter that Christopher Carley would have the winning bid for the building's purchase but developer John Murphy came through instead. The 22-story building, built in 1926, will support 220 apartment units under Murphy's scheme (down from 230). If anyone is qualified for vintage downtown conversions it's Murphy, who's knee-deep in the hotel transformations of 100 W Monroe and the former Motor Club Building. [Crain's, previously]
