Developer John O'Donnell doesn't believe the Evanston market is ready for a new office tower, and so his plans for a vacant lot at Main & Chicago are re-centering on residential. The site would sprout a nine-story apartment building with 112 units, one floor of retail, one floor of offices, and 73 underground parking spaces if the community signs on. Evanston Alderman Melissa Wynne seems to be cheering the development, at least in the abstract, but some community members present at last week's Ward meeting voiced concerns about overcrowding the rental market and others thought the parking provision inadequate.
