In a rare legal victory for low-income SRO hotel tenants, residents at the Rosemoor Hotel at 1622 W Jackson won a reprieve from "retaliatory behavior" conducted by new owner/manager Rosemoor Suites, Inc. following tenant blockage of illegal construction activity. Rent hikes and 30-day eviction notices are, for now, reversed. The newly-formed Rosemoor Tenants Union organized the blockage and subsequent lawsuit, which could serve to embolden other long-term SRO tenants rallying against upscale developer conversions.
