Shipping Container Cafes

New, 5 comments

Shipping container architecture has arrived at the border of Edgewater and Rogers Park in the form of a drive-thru Starbucks. The store had its soft opening on Saturday, reports DNAinfo, and is replacing a drive-thru hotdog stand in a bit of a drive-thru district at Broadway and Devon. Starbucks is experimenting with the utilitarian prefab design, built for walk-up and drive-thru orders only, and has them in just a handful of cities thus far. The business plan is simple: intercept the crush of commuters heading to and from Lake Shore Drive. Click over to the main article for photos. [DNAinfo, rendering: Starbucks via DNAinfo]
