A Closer Look at Studio Gang's Clark Park Boathouse

New, 27 comments

With unseasonably warm air in our favor, we ventured to Clark Park on the river's edge in Roscoe Village, where the new Clark Park Boathouse is nearing completion. Designed by Studio Gang Architects, the sprawling 20,000 square foot facility consists of two separate structures, one of which was still under construction during our visit. The northern building, currently open to visitors, features a series of sweeping roof projections and is clad with hundreds of richly-textured slate panels. Built at a cost of $7.4 million, the Clark Park Boathouse is the first of four new boathouses planned along the Chicago River. It will accommodate the Chicago Rowing Foundation and rowers from North Park University, along with canoe and kayak rentals starting at $15-$20 an hour. A grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th.
