Back in April, we posted an early rendering of the new Malcolm X College campus, a crude massing model that gave us little in the way of guidance. This week, a new set of renderings, revealed at a recent groundbreaking ceremony, is helping to give us a better sense of what's in store for the new campus. The 500,000-square foot complex, located on a surface parking lot at Jackson and Damen, will include the new Malcolm X College along with the School of Health Sciences. Cannon Design, the architecture firm behind the project, has crafted three closely-related contemporary buildings, possibly clad in cor-ten steel. In addition to those structures, a 1,500-car parking garage is also in the works. The new $251M campus, funded by Mayor Emanuel's five-year capital plan, is scheduled to open in January 2016.
