How does one go about building new structures in an active floodplain? Design for it, that's how. The Chicago Architecture Blog shows how Legat Architects planned for major mid- and post-construction floods when designing Oakton Community College's new Science and Health Center. The showy building, on pace for an early 2014 completion, weathered its trial by water with the "Great Flood of 2013" which wreaked havoc on many Des Plaines River-proximate buildings. [CAB]
