Ald. Proco joe Moreno took to a Sun-Times op-ed to weigh in on the Lathrop Homes redevelopment plan, stressing the need for a greater number of "affordable units made available to working-class residents." Moreno believes a larger share of the subsidized units should go to households earning 51-80% of area median income (AMI), where presently, only 212 of a planned 1,116 units are reserved for this middle-of-the-road set. Moreno also states the need for the original 925 public housing units to be reestablished here and across the city, and that "overall development must also incorporate intensive, wrap-around social services."
