Chicagoland came wrenchingly close to falling off this top 10 list, but thanks to a fervent driving culture and endless suburbs, we held onto the 10th spot in Forbes' annual ranking of the continent's most traffic-congested cities. A bunch of smaller cities ranked higher (Vancouver, San Fran, San Jose, New Orleans, Montreal, Toronto, Honolulu, and Seatle), which should lessen the hurt somewhat. The congestion index shows it takes Chicago drivers "24 percent longer getting where they want to go than when the roads are clear." [Forbes/photo: wikipedia commons]
