Renovation Watch: FLATS Chicago

New, 11 comments

Calling it "hip housing", DNAinfo blogger Benjamin Woodard gets us an update on a coordinated burst of Uptown apartment renovations: what to expect and when to expect it. The ambition of local developer Jay Michael is to "cash in" on the emerging market through upgrades to seven downtrodden apartment buildings (four are in Uptown). His company is Cedar Street and his branding is FLATS Chicago. All of the renovations are underway, set to open early next year, and the hundreds of undersized rental units will be priced from $800. Nothing quite so affordable as single-room occupancy, but not unreasonable either. [DNAinfo, photo: Cedar Street Cos.]
