By cross-referencing big cities with deserted locales of the same latitude, photo artist Thierry Cohen produced mock-ups of what night skies would actually look like in specific cities were there no light pollution. Photographing each city in his "Darkened Cities" series by daylight, Cohen then darkened the silhouettes in post-production and superimposed celestial extremes of the Western Sahara and Mojave. The result is a very cool set of best-case night sky scenarios for the world's most populous places. [Atlantic Cities]
