The boutiquey Hotel Indigo has picked for its third Chicagoland location the vacant Atlantic Bank Building at 168 N Michigan, reports Crain's. The Marshall and Fox-designed 12-story building feels pretty boxed-in by much taller neighbors, and has been reeling for several years since the bank moved out. The structure will be gutted and rebuilt for 145 rooms. Here's the funny twist: the building was originally meant to have 16 stories but ran out of steam. 100 years overdue, new owner Crown Commercial and prospective tenant Hotel Indigo now want to build those four stories. Cool or weird? You decide. [Crain's via Chicago Architecture Blog]
