Fun With Urban Planning

The American Planning Association (APA) has doled out its annual National Planning Awards, in both "excellence" and "achievement", and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) won "most excellent planning agency". Formed by merger several years ago, the agency's GO TO 2040 comprehensive plan is what garnered attention. In sum, the APA citation had this to say: "[The plan] is designed to help seven counties and 284 municipalities coordinate policies and investment decisions. It includes strategies to shape the region's transportation system and development patterns, while also addressing the natural environment, economic development, housing, education, human services, and other quality-of-life factors." Implementation is the real bitch. [APA, image: GO TO 2040 concept rendering]
