Auctioneering

Fans of salvage, steel yourself. This weekend, pieces of a grand blufftop mansion in Glencoe are hitting the auction block. We're talking panelling, carved moldings, chandeliers, towel racks, and on and on. The owners, who just bought the historic property (complete w/ cable car), must be quite confident they'll persuade Glencoe to issue a demolition permit superseding the historic protections. Why else would you invite the world in to strip your house of its luster? The specialized reclamation auctioneers, Murco, make it their mission to "extract and redistribute as many materials" as possible. Murco's Jodi Murphy adds that this particular property offers "the perfect combo platter of old and new stuff". Hop on over to Dennis Rodkin's Deal Estate column for more!
