Iannelli On Northerly Island

Sculptor, industrial designer, and Park Ridge native Alfonso Iannelli, master of fantastical vaudevillian imagery and one-time FLW collaborator (a snub by Wright ended the relationship), had a big presence on Northerly Island once upon a time. Iannelli designed the "Enchanted Island" children's play area for the 1933 Century of Progress World's Fair. Chicago Journal's Bonnie McGrath learned more about the connection on a tour of Northerly Island, which produced the haunting image at right. Guaranteed to leave an indelible mark, try softening the multi-story dementoid child by thinking of him as a harmless "Cubist boy". [Chicago Journal]
