Hipsterdom

It's time for that all-important ranking of the nation's hippest Hipster 'hoods. The list gets updated every so often by lifestyle junkies like Forbes Magazine. This year's ranking has Chicago's Wicker Park in the #4 slot, meaning that its denizens prefer late night indie rock to top 40, skinny jeans to carpenter's pants, and food trucks to established restaurants. Everyone knows the hipster phenomenon is really just another clever way to bundle gentrification, make it more electrifying. The artist 'pioneers' largely came and went a couple decades ago. Ditto ethnic diversity. But it could be worse. It could be Williamsburg, whose studios now rent for more than Greenwich Village's. And, guess what? They're a notch higher on the Forbes list.
