Bus rapid transit (BRT) is coming to da south side. The Sun-Times is reporting that construction of the 16 miles of express bus lanes on Jeffery Boulevard could start next month. Here's how it'll work: Between 67th and 83rd Streets, during the morning and afternoon rush hours, one lane will be dedicated exclusively to CTA buses. Also, from 73rd to 84th, buses will have traffic signal priority, allowing them to control the length of stop lights. The $3.5 million project is being funded by $11 million in federal grant money, with completion of the new lanes expected by November. The best part? It won't cost you any extra than regular CTA service. [Sun-Times]
