Citing "a consensus that the plan is simply too dense," Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) has come out against the latest proposal for the Children's Memorial Hospital site in Lincoln Park. As you may recall, developer McCaffery Interests is seeking to build three highrises on the 6.2-acre site with heights of 145', 250', and 290'. There are also concerns that the children who will live in these new buildings will exacerbate overcrowding at nearby Lincoln Elementary School and also Louisa May Alcott School, about a half-mile away. Until these issues are resolved, the plan is a no-go. So now it's back to the drawing board. [Ald. Michele Smith, previously]
