Unveiled: Fulton Market Cold Storage Makeover

New, 11 comments

A few weeks ago, we brought you news of plans by Sterling Bay to make over the Fulton Market Cold Storage warehouse in the West Loop. Though rumors had been a-flyin' about Google signing on as a tenant in the building, such speculation was put to rest when news broke that the tech giant was in talks to relocate its new digs to the Merchandise Mart. Now, thanks to the efforts of renderings-procuring extraordinaire spyguy at Skyscraper Page, we can get a better idea of what Sterling Bay has in store for the site. The design strikes a good balance between modernization for new tenants and preser- vation of the warehouse building's older bones. Most dramatic is the vast wall of finely-detailed glass panels serving as the new western facade. And adjacent to the main building is a highly-modern green-roofed structure that will provide an additional 180,000 square feet of office space. No word on when construction will begin. Stay tuned!
